University Research Ethics Procedures and Practices
It is the policy of the University of Sunderland that all its research must be conducted in accordance with the University's Research Ethics Principles, Professional Codes of Practice and the law. All University research must be reviewed by the Research Ethics Committee unless it can be 'Self Certified' by the Chief Investigator.

Application Process

This form has associated 'Guidance notes' to assist you with form completion. Every submitted application will require an associated Participant Information sheet and Participant Consent form. Examples of these can be found below:

After form submission, you will receive an email confirming receipt of your application and the Ethics Administrator will contact you to inform you about the progress of your application. The administrator will also inform you of the committee's opinion of your research within 30 days of receipt of your completed application.
Research Ethics Committee Meeting Dates 2011/12
If your application requires review by the Ethics Committee or any hospital/Health Authority/Primary Care Trust in the Country, including local hospitals of Sunderland, Newcastle, Gateshead and Tyneside etc then a common application form is now available from NRES/IRAS i.e National Research Ethics Service
