North East Centre for Lifelong Learning

The North East Centre for Lifelong Learning (NECLL) provides a range of short courses in Newcastle upon Tyne and other venues across Tyneside and the North East of England.

The NECLL is part of the University of Sunderland and aims to promote lifelong learning to the general public across the North East region.

The NECLL offers two programmes: 'Explore' and 'Modern Foreign Languages'.

Explore

The NECLL's Explore programme provides short courses in art, literature, philosophy, natural science, music, creative writing, history, archaeology and current issues.

Explore is a subscription service, with subscribers eligible to attend as many sessions and events as they wish.

Modern Foreign Languages

The NECLL offers a number of practical courses in modern foreign languages, including: Arabic, Catalan, Chinese Mandarin, Dutch, French, German, Hebrew (modern), Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

The Modern Foreign Language courses are available at a range of levels, from beginner to near-fluent.

All courses are accredited by the University of Sunderland, and students can work towards a University Certificate in Modern Foreign Language Studies if they wish.

The NECLL's Modern Foreign Language course fees depend on the number of credits in the course.
