Live In Access Scholarship 2013/14
Free University accommodation in your first year (worth up to £3,800)
The Sunderland Live In Access Scholarship provides free accommodation in any of our five Halls of Residence for your first academic year.
This scholarship is available for all new ‘home’ and EU students joining the University of Sunderland in autumn 2013. 'Home' students are those who have been ordinarily resident in the UK for 3 years prior to the start of their course.
To be eligible for this scholarship you must also:
- Have a household income of £42,600 or less
- Apply to UCAS by 15 January 2013
- Select the University of Sunderland as your Firm Choice by 6 June 2013
- Live in a North East regional postcode area (at the point of application) listed below:

Applying to a Partner College: Students applying for some Foundation degrees at partner colleges may also apply for this scholarship. Please see the full list of eligible partner college programmes for more information.
If you have applied directly to a partner college then this is accepted as having selected the University of Sunderland as your Firm Choice institution.

1. Can I choose which Halls of Residence I live in?
2. Will this scholarship meet the cost of living in Scotia Quay for disabled students?
The scholarship will cover the cost of your accommodation in your first year regardless of which accommodation you apply for and are offered a place in. If you have additional requirements that incur supplementary costs above the standard room rate you may be required to cover these expenses.

3. Does this scholarship apply to U Student Accommodation?
Yes. The Forge - U Student Village is private accommodation. It is owned and managed by U-Student, working in partnership with the University of Sunderland. If your application is successful, the Live In Access Scholarship could be used against the cost of all single study bedrooms in University accommodation, including U Student Village.
4. I will be progressing from a Foundation Degree/HND from a partner college in September 2013 to do a top-up year at the University. Will I be able to benefit from these scholarships?
5. Will this scholarship meet supplementary costs above the standard room rate?
No, the Live In Access Scholarship is for accommodation rent only (i.e. that meets your academic study programme). Any additional costs such as kitchen packs, car parking, casual accommodation or summer stays would be additional costs.
6. What if I apply late or through Clearing?
The Live In Access Scheme is only available to applicants who apply to the University by the UCAS deadline of 15 January 2013 and select the University of Sunderland as their Firm choice by 6 June 2013. Unfortunately, applicants who apply through Clearing are not eligible for this scholarship.

How to apply
To apply you must login to your personal VIP page.
When you apply to the University of Sunderland through UCAS you will be sent the login details you need to access the VIP page.
You can apply for this scholarship from 15 January 2013.
The deadline for applications is 31 May 2013, and any applications made after this date will not be considered. You will find out whether or not you have been successful in September 2013.
