The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on this page relate to general queries which could apply to any of our scholarships.
If you have any specific questions relating to individual scholarships, please take a look at each scholarship information page.

1. Will I be able to apply for a scholarship if my programme does not start in September or October 2012?
For most of our scholarships you are not eligible unless your programme starts in September or October 2012. However, all full-time students who start a course during the academic year 2012/2013 will receive the ‘Sunderland Get There Campus Scholarship’.
In addition, these students are also able to apply for the ‘National Scholarship Programme’, regardless of the time in the year that they apply.
2. Can I apply for all three discretionary scholarships, even though I will only be able to receive one?
No. You can apply for a discretionary scholarship on the online application form once you have received an offer from the University of Sunderland. You can only apply for ONE of the three scholarships, so please choose the one which you feel most closely meets your needs.
3. I am a single parent, what help is available for me?
The University offers a comprehensive package of support for students from a variety of backgrounds and personal situations, in addition to the scholarship package for 2012/2013. In order to discuss your personal situation please contact the University’s

4. When applying for some scholarships I need to state my 'household income'. How do I calculate this?
When assessing applications, the University of Sunderland will follow guidance provided by the Students Loans Company (SLC). According to the SLC’s terms and conditions, ‘household income’ is the total amount your family earns each year before tax and National insurance is deducted.

5. If I apply for a University of Sunderland scholarship but then decide to accept an offer from another university instead, what will happen to my application for a scholarship?
University of Sunderland scholarships are awarded to students who achieve the entry requirements for their chosen course and are then offered a place on a full-time Undergraduate course starting in September/October 2012.
If a student applies for a scholarship but then chooses to go to a different university, their application will be withdrawn and the scholarship will be offered to another student.
6. Are any of the scholarships available for part-time students?
If you study part-time at the University of Sunderland you can apply for the ‘Sunderland National Scholarship Programme’. If successful, you will be awarded a proportion of the scholarship on a pro rata basis. For example, if your course is 50% of a full-time course, you will be awarded 50% of the scholarship.
7. Would a student with a Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) qualification be eligible for any of the scholarships?
A student with a FETAC qualification starting a Level 3 undergraduate programme in September/October 2012 who is a ‘new’ student to the University would be eligible for the ‘Sunderland Get Campus Scholarship’, ‘Sunderland Pathway to Work Scholarship’ and, if applicable, the ‘Care Leavers’s Scholarship’.
