University of Sunderland Scholarships 2016/17
The scholarships on this page relate to students who are starting a course at the University of Sunderland in the academic year 2016/17.
You don't need to apply for these scholarships - if you're eligible you'll receive them automatically.
Care Leavers' Scholarship
What it is: £1,500 a year cash (up to £6,000)
Who it's for: Students with 'care leaver' status.
What it is: £2,000
Who it's for: Students with ABB grades.
Get There Scholarship
What it is: Free travel across Tyne and Wear for a year or £600 discount on University-managed accommodation.
Who it's for: Most new students. University of Sunderland in London students will receive the value of £600 for travel.
Study Abroad Scholarship
What it is: £1,000 cash for students who choose to study abroad during their degree.
Who it's for: Students who are taking part in Study Abroad, and have a household income of £42,620 or less.
What it is: £1,500 or £1,000
Who it's for: International students.
What it is: £2,400 fee waiver
Who it's for: Students applying for Foundation degrees at partner colleges.
Off-Campus Progression Scholarship
What it is: £500 cash
Who it's for: Foundation degree students studying at partner colleges who progress to an on-campus top-up year.
On-Campus Extended Programme Scholarship
What it is: Up to £2,700 fee waiver
Who it's for: Students applying for On-Campus Extended programmes.
Modern Foreign Languages Year Abroad Scholarship
What it is: £1,275 fee waiver
Who it's for: Students studying Spanish or French as part of a Combined Subjects degree.

Elite Athlete Scheme
What it is: Up to £1,000 worth of funding and support (please note, support packages may vary and are individually awarded)
Who it's for: Any student enrolled at the University of Sunderland.
Royal Television Society undergraduate bursary
What it is: £3,000 + extra benefits from the Royal Television Society
Who it's for: Applicants for BA (Hons) Broadcast Media Production or BA (Hons) Broadcast Journalism. Please note that this scholarship is awarded by the Royal Television Society, not the University of Sunderland. For full information and to apply, please go to the Royal Television Society website.
Student Achievement Reward (StAR) Bursaries (links to Faculty of Applied Sciences website)
What it is: £1,000
Who it's for: Engineering students from the North East.
Armed Forces Bereavement Scholarship Scheme (links to gov.uk website)
What it is: Financial support to cover university fees and university maintenance costs.
Who it's for: The aim of this scheme to give the children of those who died in service and whose death was attributable to service, a scholarship to help cover some of the costs incurred in obtaining a university degree. For more information and to apply, please go to the gov.uk website.

Futures Fund Student Opportunity Scholarship
What it is: Up to £500
Who it's for: Any full or part-time student studying at the University of Sunderland.
Futures Fund Excellence Scholarship
What it is: Up to £500
Who it's for: Any penultimate year full-time student, studying with the University of Sunderland, who is considered, by their board of study, to be on track for a first class honours degree.
Futures Fund Graduate Development Scholarship
What it is: Up to £2,500
Who it's for: Any full or part-time student in the final year of their undergraduate study and also recently graduated alumni (up to one year).
The Sir Tom Cowie Memorial Scholarship Award
What it is: Up to £10,000
Who it's for: Full-time undergraduate students studying a discipline related to Engineering, Education, Enterprise or Business who are at the end of their penultimate year (second year for a standard programme or third year for a four-year programme) and on track for a first or 2:1. Students must hail from the immediate Sunderland area and demonstrate financial need.
The Hope Winch Benevolence Fund Scholarship
What it is: £1,000
Who it's for: Current undergraduate students studying pharmacy at the University of Sunderland who face serious financial challenges which impact upon their academic potential.
