Claire White
Claire was the first person in her family to go to university, and paid full fees. We caught up with Claire and her dad Brian White to talk about their experiences.

Claire White (21) graduated with a 2:1 in BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Development. She now works as a Community and Development Officer for Gateshead Thunder Rugby League Team.
"I get the players out into the community delivering coaching sessions," Claire explained. "As part of my time at the University of Sunderland I did voluntary work for the Development Team, working with disabled children, women with mental health problems and young foster children. I think that experience, alongside my professional qualification, really helped me secure my dream job."
Though Claire paid full fees she has no doubt that it was worth every penny.
"My degree was definitely great value, and there is absolutely no way I would have got this job without it.
"The University of Sunderland really opened doors for me. It was not just getting my dream job, but the experience of being at university, which made it worth every penny.
"Paying fees can be daunting, but it's a real investment for your future."
Claire's dad Brian says: "We're all over the moon with Claire. She worked really hard to get her degree, and to say we were pleased when she landed the job at Gateshead Thunder is an understatement.
"Fees are a real worry when you're a parent. We had no experience of anyone in our family going to university. The financial burden was quite hard, but it was worth every bit of it. I'd pay double that again and for another three years.
"It's a natural thing to worry about the debt, but it's something we can afford and we never had any doubts.
"We didn't expect her to get such a good job straight away. I'm very proud - and we get free tickets to Gateshead Thunder!"
