Andrew Short, Software Engineer at CERN

"My lecturers put me forward for a prestigious work placement at the CERN European laboratory, in Geneva, which houses the world's biggest machine, the Large Hadron Collider.

"I was lucky enough to be chosen from thousands of students to spend a year at the centre as part of my degree course placement, which ultimately led me to getting a job there.

"I will forever be in debt to the lecturers for putting me forward for a work placement that has led to an amazing job, surrounded by some of the most brilliant minds. I still remember my first day in the staff canteen when a colleague kept pointing to several different Nobel prize winners!"
