Design

What is Design?

Design plays an essential role in our everyday lives - from the way we communicate with each other to the way we interact with our environment. That's probably why it is one of the fastest growing industries in the UK.

Why Sunderland for Design?

  • Employment rates for Sunderland Design graduates are among the highest in the UK
  • £1.5million invested in The Design Centre
  • Study trips to New York, London and Barcelona

You will be based in the Design Centre, a dedicated and 'designed' space, which has recently benefited from over £1.5million investment.

We encourage each individual to develop their own creative voice through a range of traditional and digital media. You will develop technical mastery and benefit from state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, and you will be in an environment filled with creative thinkers of the highest calibre.

Real-world experience with the design industry is an integral part of our programmes. We have an in-house design unit called 'Hothouse@' which provides live client briefs which you will work on in a professional setting, and you will be encouraged to enter competitions and take part in live projects.

Final year students exhibit at either New Designers or the Design and Art Direction exhibition in London.

Design graduate stories

Dani Brown and Paul Mann both graduated with a BA (Hons) in Advertising and Design.

They worked so well together at Sunderland that they are now a creative team at a London advertising agency, working on international brand campaigns.
