Photography

What is Photography?

This course is based in photography but gives you the chance to explore video and digital imaging as well. You can then choose to specialise in one or a combination of the three subjects.

Why Sunderland for Photography?

  • Extensive film and digital facilities, including darkrooms, studios, cameras and computer suites
  • Close ties with the North East Photography Network (NEPN)
  • Practical teaching to help you develop key skills

Our photography courses are based in art / documentary practice, and allow you to develop your own approach and become a critically engaged practitioner.

Courses are primarily practical, allowing you to master technical and aesthetic skills in photography, video and digital imaging. You will also develop the skills to reflect, investigate and comment on issues relating to photography.

We have an excellent range of facilities available for photography, video and digital imaging. These include traditional darkrooms for chemical printing and processing in colour and black and white, as well as state-of-the-art digital facilities.

The North East has produced some great photographers, and the University of Sunderland's Photography Department set up the North East Photography Network (NEPN) in 2009 to develop and promote photography in the North East of England.
