We provide a range of opportunities for our students to work with employers, encouraging them to apply for an industrial placement between the second and third year of their undergraduate degree.
There are two major projects in progress in the Faculty – the Institute of Coding in the School of Computer Science and Sustainable Advanced Manufacturing in the School of Engineering. As well as this, we have a number of areas of applied research, including Data Science, Usability, Cybersecurity and Advanced Manufacturing, and a strong portfolio of pedagogic research – focussing on understanding the way our students learn and enhancing the way we teach them.
School of Computer Science
We equip our computer science students and graduates with the knowledge, skills and abilities to succeed in the IT and Computer Science industries as well as the confidence and creativity with which to articulate these skills. Close collaboration with industry and professional bodies means our courses are highly relevant and recognised, with our research expertise underpinning not just what we teach, but how we teach. We truly care about our students’ success, and our practical and inclusive approaches to learning and assessment ensure graduates leave us as adaptive problem solvers in a world of rapidly-changing technology.
School of Engineering
We provide our engineering students with a balanced educational experience, using a multidisciplinary approach to blend the fundamentals of engineering with the latest digital technologies, engineering management principles and core technical competencies. The School offers a range of engineering courses which have been developed to address the requirements of industry and are particularly aligned to the regional focus on manufacturing. Our undergraduate courses are accredited by the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) which means our students graduate with an internationally-recognised qualification.
