Reader in Operations Management

A Reader in Operations Management, I joined Sunderland Business School in August 2016. I hold a PhD and an MSc in Operational Research from London School of Economics.

Previously (1991 – 2016) I was a Lecturer at the Athens University of Economics & Business (Greece), Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor at the Department of Industrial Management & Technology at the University of Piraeus (Greece) where I taught Operational Research, Operations Management and Quantitative Methods at both the undergraduate and postgraduate programs of the department. I have extensive experience of teaching in-class and online to undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as supervising Dissertations and Theses. I have been research active throughout my academic career. I have published more than 50 research papers in scientific journals and conferences attracting more than 500 citations.

Teaching and supervision

I am Programme Leader for MSc in Operations and Logistics Management.

I am also involved in the teaching of modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate level:

Operations Management
Managing Projects
Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management
Business Modelling for Decision Making
Dissertation Supervision

Research interests for potential research students

My main research interests relate to the development, design and implementation of solutions (both quantitative and qualitative) to business applications in Operations Management, Production Planning and Control, Operational Research, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Optimal Design of Production Systems, Discrete Optimization Methods, Discrete-Event Simulation.

Research

My main research interests relate to the development, design and implementation of solutions (both quantitative and qualitative) to business applications in Production Planning and Control, Operational Research, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Optimal Design of Production Systems, Discrete Optimization Methods, Discrete-Event Simulation.

I have published more than 50 papers in scientific journals and conferences with more than 500 citations. My published work focuses on the solution of combinatorial optimization problems in the fields of telecommunications and design and analysis of production systems.

My current research interests also include the development of heuristic algorithms, the application of Data Envelopment Analysis technique in industrial problems, energy production systems and cellular manufacturing.

I am a reviewer to several scientific journals and conferences including the International Journal of Production Research, the European Journal of Operational Research, the International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, the IEEE Conference on Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management.
