As a Principal Lecturer: Learning and Teaching, I work with colleagues across the institution and within our Centre for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT). I lead on Learning, Teaching and Assessment in the Faculty of Technology and I'm part of the Faculty Management Team.
My academic background is varied: I hold a PhD in Natural Language Processing (Automatic Text Simplification), an MSc in Computer Based Information Systems, an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and a BA (Hons) in Classics. I have supervised and examined PhDs in Natural Language Processing, Information Classification and Retrieval, Internationalisation of Higher Education, and TESOL.
My research interests in recent years have focused on pedagogy and in particular student engagement, motivation and identity; assessment and feedback; and graduate employability in Computer Science.
