Academic Tutor

My practice creates curatorial projects with other artists. These projects could become exhibitions, publications or live events – they all explore and expanding on the contexts in which contemporary art and design is produced and presented.

In 2009, I co-founded the arts organisation CIRCA Projects, which over the past decade has developed commissions with contemporary artists including Giles Bailey, Emma Hart, Benedict Drew, Ed Atkins, Mario Pfeifer, Clemens von Wedemeyer and Heather Phillipson.

In addition, I design and edit creative publications and initiate printmaking projects that harness systems of co-authorship. One output for this is the publishing studio Foundation Press – which operates as a space for testing collaborative approaches to design, printmaking and publishing, utilising teaching tactics from the interdisciplinary and fast-paced environment of the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design course.

I am interested in building students’ critical and independent skills, ensuring they are confident and able to initiate creative projects in professional contexts outside of university. I regularly build into my curatorial projects opportunities for our students, creating chances for students to be part of live projects in exciting locations across the northeast region. Recent and upcoming student projects includes activities at Kotti Shop Berlin, Blip Blip Blip Leeds, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Star & Shadow Cinema and Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art.

Teaching and supervision

I teach on Foundation Diploma in Art and DesignBA (Hons) Art and Design Extended and BA (Hons) Fine Art.

I have also presented lectures and workshops for MA Fine Art.

I am also currently Vice Chancellor’s Teaching Fellow for 2018 – delivering a teaching innovation nurturing students’, from across the Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries, use of self-publishing as a tool for networking and collaborating.
