Healthcare Science Lead - Life and Physiological Sciences
I have further specialised in education and training of the workforce for the last 20 years and have worked on the implementation of Modernising Scientific Careers for the healthcare science workforce for the last seven years.
My current role is linked with Health Education England North East where I provide leadership and support for education and workforce development in life and physiological sciences.
I work closely across the region with our NHS Foundation Trusts and nationally in the development and implementation of new academic programmes such as apprenticeships and undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for the healthcare science workforce with the aim to provide an appropriately trained workforce capable of delivering safe and sustainable patient care.
Teaching and supervision
I have a teaching qualification in adult and further education and assessor and verifier qualifications which allow me to support and mentor staff in the workplace, working towards vocational qualifications. Professionally, I am an external verifier for the Institute of Biomedical Sciences for their Certificate of Competence portfolios which leads candidates to HCPC registration post graduation.
Modernising Scientific Careers (MSC) was introduced as a complete new academic pathway to educate and train the healthcare science workforce from 2008. The pathway covers the whole workforce from assistants, practitioners, scientists to consultants. The implementation phase has passed and a significant number of programmes are now embedded into delivery. Should anyone wish to have any information on any of these training programmes, I am happy to advise.
