Professor of Public Health

I am Professor of Public Health with interests across the breadth of public health and health sciences. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health, the Higher Education Academy and a Chartered Psychologist, I'm also a member of the NIHR Health Services and Delivery Research Specialty Group for the North East and North Cumbria, and the Regional Advisory Panel for the NIHR Research for Patient Benefit. I've been awarded national funding from the NIHR, Public Health England and the ESRC, as well as the NHS and local organisations.

Teaching and supervision

I currently contribute to the research methods and dissertation modules of MSc Public Health. I also supervise several PhD students.

I have previously taught public health and psychology at several UK universities.

Research interests for potential research students

I welcome new doctoral students working in areas of health and public health.

Research

My research interests are broad and I am engaged in work across the field of public health, from health and wellbeing in Sub-Saharan Africa to alcohol use in later life. However, key interests are on workforce development, such as the public health role of pharmacy and in the use of big data to predict and support public health interventions.
