Programme Leader

I am Programme Leader in Environmental Management in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellbeing. My expertise is in Environmental Management and Assessment. This includes management systems, auditing, risk and impact assessments, environmental training, and the application of principles of sustainability and social responsibility in businesses.

My previous career was in environmental consultancy with ERM, an international organisation, where I provided technical input ranging from laboratory analysis to technical reporting, and development and delivery of NEBOSH and IEMA approved courses.

I am an IEMA Registered Auditor and member of the North East Steering Group as well as an active member of the local Green Thinkers organisation.
Prior to my career as an Environmentalist, I studied Clinical Biochemistry and a PhD in the Biochemistry of Diabetes.

Teaching and supervision

My particular academic interests lie with the application of life-cycle assessments and issues of sustainable products and services. I lead our online PgD/MSc Environment, Health and Safety and teach on both on campus and online postgraduate courses.

I have supervised many MSc projects in Environmental as well as Health and Safety Management, and I actively participate in the development of the curriculum in line with IOSH and IEMA guidelines.
