Associate Professor in Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Sciences, Programme Leader for Cosmetic Science

I have a First Class Honours BSc in Pharmacy, a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry and a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (FHEA).

I am a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (MRPharmS), registered with GPharmC, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC).

I have been an academic at the University of Sunderland since 2004 and I teach on the MPharm and undergraduate and postgraduate pharmaceutical sciences courses.

I designed and currently lead BSc (Hons) Cosmetic Science. I also lead MSc Cosmetic Science.

Alongside my teaching, I lead my research on the design and quality control of transdermal dosage forms including hydrogels, the stabilisation of drugs via amorphous solid dispersions, and the design of cosmetic formulations.

  • Drug crystallisation and stabilisation patterns and enhanced solubility via polymeric amorphous solid dispersions
  • Design, synthesis and characterisation of hydrogels for transdermal drug delivery
  • Formulation and characterisation of semisolids for pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications
  • Skin metabolism of drugs and cosmetic ingredients.
