Senior Lecturer in Public Health

I am a Senior Lecturer in Public Health, Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health (FRSPH), Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), and member of Fuse – The NIHR Centre For Translational Research in Public Health in the North East of England.

I joined the University of Sunderland in 2022 having worked for the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) as a Clinical Lecturer and Clinical Research Associate in Reproductive Health. At LSTM, in addition to teaching I provided technical assistance to improve the quality of care for mothers and babies in sub-Saharan Africa and southeast Asia.

Prior to working at LSTM, I trained and worked as a Medical Doctor and an Obstetrician/Gynaecologist in Tanzania providing maternity care at Muhimbili National Hospital, and as a Lecturer at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences, department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Dar es Salaam. I also worked for Jhpiego – a USAID funded organization, to update the HIV/AIDS curriculum for medical schools in Tanzania and Ethiopia. 



Teaching and supervision

I lecture on BSc (Hons) Public Health Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship and MSc Public Health.

I am a supervisor for MSc and research degree students.
