Postdoctoral Research Fellow
I am a Physiotherapist and worked clinically for 27 years before joining University of Sunderland. Within that time, I completed a PhD in Coping Strategies in Back Pain and then completed a five-year NIHR post-doctoral research fellowship. I have completed a three-year Fellowship with NICE and was Editor of a small special interest journal 'Pain and Rehabilitation' for four years, and remain on the editorial board.
My research interests are back pain and chronic pain, specifically psychosocial aspects and psychometrics but I have undertaken diverse projects within the physiotherapy and rehabilitation field in addition to being an investigator within the Medical Technology sector. I work both quantitatively and qualitatively and broad interests encompassing psychosocial aspects of care.
Teaching and supervision
I am primarily involved with research activity but undertake guest lectures and supervise PhD students.
Research interests for potential research students
Although pain and rehabilitation have been my primary interests I am interested in any novel psychosocial aspects related to care.
