Senior Lecturer

I work as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Social Sciences and teach on BA (Hons) Childhood Studies. I am also the Programme Leader for the Foundation Degree (FdA) in Education and Care. This course is delivered through an off-campus partnership of five FE colleges across the North East of England.

I have worked in the world of education throughout my career in a variety of roles. Qualifying as a teacher initially, I worked in schools before taking charge of, firstly, a Teachers' Centre providing CPD for education professionals then a large Education Centre in a North East Local Authority which acted as a hub for a host of school support services and activities. I was also the BBC Schools' Education Officer for Training in the North East and Cumbria.

Research interests include exploring the student experience (joint paper published), children's self-perception (joint paper awaiting publication), children in school transition (current project) and supporting non-traditional learners to achieve at HE level. In May 2017, I was awarded Senior Fellow status in Higher Education Academy (HEA).

Teaching and supervision

I teach across levels 4, 5 and 6 on the undergraduate Childhood Studies degree. I am Programme Leader for FdA in Education and Care and in this role I lead and co-ordinate the teaching and learning activities of staff and students on this course.
