Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Childhood and Society Studies

Before moving into higher education teaching I had a professional background and twenty years experience of working in the public sector within local government and the voluntary sector. This included community and youth work, children and young people's participation, detached youth work, youth service management and restructuring, policy and strategy for children, young people and families, and youth work training.

This professional experience provided the background for my move into teaching in 2013, first with teaching higher education within a further education setting, across modules on foundation degrees and top up degrees in social care, health, children and young people, and youth services, with programme leadership for an FdA in Social Care.

I moved to the University of Sunderland in 2015 to become a Senior Lecturer in Childhood Studies, which involved teaching (see teaching and supervision section), as well as programme leadership for BA (Hons) Education and Curriculum Studies (Top Up).
