Senior Lecturer / Specialism Strand Leader

I qualified as a nurse in 1984 and worked in the NHS before returning to study. Initially working towards primary teaching, I moved into adult education. I have undertaken a range of qualifications that have enabled me to work in Health, Social Services and Education. I joined the University in 2003. Throughout this time I have been involved in several programmes as a consultant and programme leader, including: Applied Family Studies, Early Years Professional Status, Foundation Degree in Education and Care, BA Education and Care, Higher Level Teaching Assistant and collaborative partnerships with further education colleges and Local Authority organisations for continuing professional development (CPD).

As Senior Lecturer, I have led my department in developing the use of technological innovations to enhance the learning experience. I was awarded my National Teaching Fellowship in 2013 by the Higher Education Academy.

I have gained professional experience initially in Nurse Education prior to moving into primary education. I have also held positions in Local Authority Social Services Human Resource Department (HRD) related programmes before consolidating this experience in Further Education and Higher Education.  In addition to my role at the University,  I have completed national and regional consultancy roles and keynote speaker contributions. I collaborate with a large number of regional and national organisations and individuals; from both voluntary and statutory sectors.

My specialist areas of interest are children who have experienced loss or trauma (including mental wellbeing impact, children in care, adopted families, kinship families), NMT, child on parent violence.
