That's it! Summer is over, and what a whirlwind it's been. Apologies for the lack of correspondence guys, I have been a very busy bee over the past few months getting my dissertation out of the way, working to pay off my credit card bills and preparing for deferred exams! I trust you've all had a great Summer too.

As the new term fast approaches, I thought I would send out a little welcome note to both our returning undergraduates and our newcomers.

If you are new to Sunderland, I'd like to take the opportunity of extending a big warm welcome to the Sunderland University Family. I hope your experience here will be as positive and rewarding as mine has been.

If you are new to the area you will find that there is a lot to do up in the North East. Sunderland is a bustling city with a great high street and shopping centre, with lots of places to also eat and drink. The likes of Newcastle and Hartlepool are also just a 30-minutes ride away on the local metro or train service, and attractions such as Beamish are available close by for those who like to explore history - It's a really good day out.

I'm not going to bore you with the dos and don'ts of being a fresher as I'm sure you've already had from that from your folks - and I'm not a party pooper.

There will be lots for you to take in during the course of the next few weeks if you are new to the area and freshers week will no doubt have you crawling in at all hours of the morning.

But for now, that's all I have to say...

Welcome to the Univesity of Sunderland, be smart, be safe, be kind.

Ciao.
