Hi, I'm Ashleigh, Events Officer here at the University of Sunderland. I'm here to tell you all about our upcoming undergraduate Open Day which is just around the corner (Saturday 9 June to be exact). For those of you who are considering studying at Sunderland, this is the perfect opportunity to see everything we have to offer.

Open Day

We know you won’t be disappointed and here are just some of the things you can expect on the day.

  • Free travel

Do you live in one of the below locations? You can take advantage of our free return travel and join us here in Sunderland hassle free. Simply email student.recruitment@sunderland.ac.uk to book your place.

Darlington, Durham, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Leeds, and York.

  • Get energised

Pick up a free freshly brewed coffee and pastry at registration to get your day off to the best start.

You can also pick up a goodie bag for any young children you have with you so they can stay entertained with puzzles and toys leaving you to absorb as much information as possible.

  • Answered questions

We have current students and academics on hand throughout the day so whether you have a question about a course or about university life in general, we’ll have someone with an answer for you. We will also have a number of talks running throughout the day covering:

  • Our courses
  • Student finance and scholarships
  • UCAS
  • Accommodation
  • Study abroad opportunities

Meaning you’ll leave us at the end of the day fully informed.

  • Experience Sunderland

As much as open days are about the university and the course you’ll be studying, the location of where you’ll spend the next three/four years of your life is just as important to consider. Take the opportunity to explore Sunderland while you’re here. As we’re based in the city centre, you’ll be able to get a feel for Sunderland pretty easily, and we’re in walking distance of everything the city has to offer making it the perfect time to check out all the local shops, bars and eateries.

  • Free lunch

Grab your complimentary lunch from one of our vendors on Food Alley and take a break while listening to the talents of our local singers and the Spark FM DJs.

Remember to collect your food token at registration!

  • Campus/accommodation tours

Now that you’ve got some food lining your stomach, how about a tour? Our Student Ambassadors will carry out Campus Tours every hour so you can get familiar with both our City Campus and Sir Tom Cowie Campus. Be sure to stop by the Fab Lab for your personalised keyring. We’re also showcasing all of our undergraduate student accommodation options so you can see which one suits you and your needs best.

  • Have fun

Finding out about your course is vital but it’s also important to have fun. So why not take some time out and take part in our giant lawn games? There’s also complimentary ice creams in Food Alley.

  • Get social

Join the conversation and share your experiences of the day using #GetInSun.

You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter to see what we’re up to and don’t forget about our Instagram takeover - captured by our very own digital ambassadors.

However you decide to spend your Open Day, remember that our staff and students will be around to help, give directions and answer all your questions.

Book your place now.
