Before Freshers' Week commences, students will get to experience Welcome Weekend, a  weekend dedicated to getting you settled and moved in and ready to start your student journey.

Airport arrival service

The University provides an Airport Arrival Service for new students arriving at Newcastle International Airport (NCL) to put you at ease for when you arrive. Our arrivals team will help you arrange transport from Newcastle International Airport to your chosen accommodation. Whether this is by private taxi or the local metro transport links, we are happy to help and provide you with all the information you need to help you with your first few days here in the UK.

Arrival

Residential Assistants and the Students’ Union Welcome Team will be there to help you between 9am and 6pm. They can escort you to your accommodation, show you around and help you with your bags. The Gateway Enquiry Team will be available in CitySpace to meet students who have last minute questions before the start of Freshers’ week.  Staff will also be available in Clanny House and Panns Bank Halls of Residences.

Accommodation

You can collect your key from the on-site accommodation reception.

Please make sure you bring a copy of your accommodation contract or your key release form, which you can find and print from your online induction, allowing us to confirm that you have a booking with us. Residents of The Forge are not required to bring this documentation.

Campus card/Travel pass

As well as the opportunity to view our fitness suite and sports facilities at CitySpace, students will be able to collect their Campus Card and travel pass if they have already uploaded their photo (ID  is required, preferably a passport or driving licence).  IT support will be available to help with any IT issues, the StudyPlus Scheme Team will be available, as well as staff from our Disability Support and our Higher Education Care Team and Team Sunderland.

Events/activities

The Student Union is holding a number of events this weekend to help you get settled, break the ice and meet some new people. From a welcome bruch, to a mexican food night, students can also take part in a city tour and movie screening.

Get a buddy!

Need a hand finding your feet? Having a Buddy is a great way to meet new people, familiarise yourself with your campus, boost your confidence and discover the beautiful city of Sunderland. Simply register for an SU Buddy and leave the rest to us. We’ll look at your interests and area of study so we can match you up with a Buddy that can help you make the most of your experience here at Sunderland – don’t worry, with a helping hand from one of our Buddies, you’ll be an honorary Mackem in no time!

Other important information

Car parking at City Campus is free on Saturday and Sunday as well as a free University shuttlebus operating to and from halls to CitySpace.

The Studio Café in CitySpace will be open for tea, coffee, soft drinks, pastries and sandwiches from 10am until late Saturday and until 4pm on Sunday.
