Some of the employer benefits of this project are as follows:

  • ESF funding can address CPD requirements within your business.
  • The ESF funding is available for all staff within the organisation

The project includes a suite of funded courses which have been designed by the University and cover a broad range of subjects, including business, engineering, health, media, teaching, social work, investigation, leadership, workplace psychology.

These funded courses will run at various stages throughout the year and will have a set number of places available.

ESF Fully Funded Short Courses & CPD

The ESF project supports businesses with workforce skills development within the North-East region as part of the North East Local Enterprise Partnership (NELEP). The NELEP utilises ESF funding to improve training and skills by investing in education and lifelong learning.

We have over 100 ESF fully funded short courses at the University of Sunderland. Providing the opportunity for individuals who work in a variety of sectors such as healthcare, digital and technology, engineering, business and leadership, media and education, to achieve personal goals and aspirations.

Funding at no additional cost

  • ESF funding works on a contribution basis, providing approximately 50% funding from ESF and 50% contribution from employer levy. Your organisation may already pay for apprentices on programme through levy funding, therefore, to access short courses, no additional levy investment is required.
  • If you have not accessed your levy before to fund workforce development our team can provide advice and support with this process.
  • If you have had or are likely to have apprentices on programme with us up until August 2023, you are able to access funding for ESF short courses at no extra cost for additional employees.
  • Those attending the training do not have to be the apprentices on programme, but they are required to be based within the North East region.
  • There are also some places available for businesses who don’t have apprentices on program with us.
  • We can send you a course guide so you can find out more email esf@sunderland.ac.uk
