Umesh graduated from the University of Sunderland with a degree in Pharmacy in 1978 and since then has worked tirelessly, providing his services to healthcare in Sunderland and is highly respected within the pharmacy sector for his several contributions to community pharmacy.
In 1979, he became a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, playing an active part in many local campaigns within his profession.
After opening his first pharmacy in London in 1980, Umesh moved to Sunderland 10 years later, where he runs Leema Pharmacy on Tunstall Road.
Umesh was Chairman of Sunderland LPC for 15 years until he stepped down in 2020. Umesh is a past chairman of the regional branch of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPSGB) which covered North East of England, a National Pharmacy Association (NPA) board member and was once vice chairman and chairman of the NPA for a year. He is actively involved in philanthropical activities. He is also ex Board of Governors at the University of Sunderland.
Umesh received an MBE for his services to the profession in 2011, in recognition of his services to healthcare in Sunderland. In 2013 Umesh received an Honorary Doctorate of Science from the University of Sunderland in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the pharmacy profession and his own professional standing in Sunderland and the North East region.
