A 60th Anniversary Celebration of Doctor Who and the World of Media
This November, Year 12 and 13 students can jump into the world of media production and join us for a time-travelling celebration!
On Friday 24 November, get ready to embark on a journey through time and space as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the iconic television series, Doctor. Who, and its profound impact on the world of media and culture.
Not a fan of Doctor Who? Our event is not just for Whovians; it's a must-attend experience, with hands-on opportunities for all students interested in careers within T.V production, Film, and Media.
Our full day event will be split into two halves.
Morning
Our academics will take your students through the history of media, introducing them to an early episode of Doctor. Who. Following this, our experts will lead thought-provoking discussions and critical analyses of character representation within the show. Students will be able to engage in meaningful conversations and gain a deeper understanding of how society has impacted media, such as the BBC, throughout the years.
Afternoon
Students will roll up their sleeves and step into the world of television and radio production in our very own studios. They’ll explore the art of single-use camera production and gain hands-on experience with latest advancements in virtual TV production, just like the professionals behind Doctor. Who. Students will learn about the art of audio and radio production, all of which are crucial elements in the world of Doctor. Who.
All activities are linked to modules taught within our four media courses:
- "Understanding Media and Culture" from Media, Culture and Communication and Film and Media
- "Film and Society" from Film and Media
- “Loving the Alien: Science Fiction, Horror, and Fantasy Television” from Film and Media
- “Studio Practice: TV and Virtual Production” from Film and Media
We invite school/college groups and individual student bookings to this event. Spaces are limited, therefore booking is essential.

This event will take place at Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St. Peter’s at the University of Sunderland, with an arrival time of 9:30am.
