Teacher Twilight Maker Day

Topic - Schools and Colleges

Are you a teacher looking to expand your skills in glass and ceramics? Do you want to get your students more engaged with glass and ceramics in the classroom? Join us for our Twilight Maker Days designed specifically for teachers and learn a new skill, gain new subject knowledge and have fun doing it!

We are excited to offer a series of creative CPD sessions aimed at teachers, technicians and educators. These ‘Twilight” sessions will be held in the University studios at National Glass Centre.

This event will take the form of individual and experiential workshops which will often (but not always) use glass and clay. James Maskrey and Rob Winter, both of who have a rich and varied career in education and the creative sector will lead the sessions and share their knowledge and skills throughout.

Attendees of this event don't need to come with knowledge or a background in glass and ceramics, we will provide you with knowledge of the basics and help you to work some of these skills into your own teaching. Sessions will begin with a short introduction and a chance for us all to familiarise ourselves with each other and exchange ideas, experiences and strategies.

During the event, workshops will have an emphasis on experience, learning and support. We aim to be reactive to participants needs both in terms of processes and technical support, as well as being light touch and fun.

Follow the sessions Rob and Jim will offer indvidual support to teachers who have attended. This will come in two parts:

  • Year 12 and 13 Maker Days- An opportunity to bring students into the workshops for an introduction to the facility and a taster session in glass and ceramics.
  • School or college visit- We will come to your institution or organisation and give a talk to your students. If requested, we can additionally give some advice on glass and ceramic workshop organisation and subject delivery - for example management of materials and use of unfamiliar equipment.

This workshop is currently only available for teachers, technicians and educators. If you would like to find out more information or make an enquiry please contact student.recruitment@sunderland.ac.uk.
