Mentor our students

Do you want to inspire others by passing on your unique experiences, career knowledge and expertise? Our Professional Mentoring scheme is a programme that matches professionals (mentors) with our University of Sunderland students (mentees).

The scheme aims to enhance the employability of our students, as well as support them in building a professional network by giving them access to the experience, knowledge and expertise of someone working in a field that interests them.

Why become a mentor?

The goal of the mentoring scheme is to give both mentors and mentees the chance to help one another enhance their professional development in areas such as leadership and communication.

Mentoring creates fantastic opportunities for students to receive relevant and up to date career sector and employability-focussed advice and help, from a mentor who has been through a similar journey.

It provides a wonderful opportunity for mentees to gain ‘real-world’ insights as they transition from study into graduate employment, but also for mentors to share their wisdom.

How does the Professional Mentoring Scheme work?

It’s quite simple really. We ask mentors to meet with their mentees around five times with each session lasting approximately one hour.

Our Professional Mentoring Scheme Guide for mentors provides more information on the role of a mentor.
