If you choose to live in accommodation not provided by the University, ensure that you view the property before you sign an agreement. If you are currently abroad and unable to do this, request a live video call to see the property.
Look for signs of mould, broken furniture (if taking a furnished property), pest infestation or faults.
Ensure that any agreements to repair or replace items are given to you in writing – do not accept verbal promises. If the current tenants are home when you view the property, ask them about their experience of living there.
