How to make tuition fee payments?

Home / Help and advice / Info for parents and supporters / Finance / How do I make tuition fee payments?

International students

When your child successfully applies, he/she will receive an offer letter.

The offer letter will confirm what tuition fee he/she need to pay in each year, and what scholarships he/she will receive.

Deposit: If your child is a student from outside of the European Union and he/she needs a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) letter, he/she must pay a £3,500 deposit.

The deposit must be paid before he/she can receive a CAS letter and Student visa. The £3,500 deposit becomes the first part of your child's tuition fee payment.

He/she should not pay the deposit until he/she has received the official offer letter from the University of Sunderland. The letter will contain an applicant number, which he/she will need in order to pay the deposit.

Full payment: The full tuition fee must be paid on or before the date of your child's student registration. He/she will not be able to register or attend any classes before full payment has been received by the University of Sunderland.

EU students

If your child is from a country within the European Union, he/she can pay an annual tuition fee in full as a single payment, or in instalments of three smaller payments.

  • Deadline for single payment: 31 October
  • Deadlines for three smaller payments: 1 November, 1 February, 1 May

These dates are correct for September intake, if your child has any other start date for the course please check instalment dates in the fees policy.

Tuition fees paid by an Official Sponsor

If your child's tuition fee is paid by official sponsorship or a Government grant, he/she must provide evidence to the University on or before the date of student registration.

An example of acceptable evidence is an official letter on your child's sponsor’s letterhead stationery. If he/she does not provide evidence he/she will not be able to register for the course.

If his/her sponsor is funding less than the full amount of the tuition fee or withdraws the sponsorship during the financial year for any reason, it is his/her personal responsibility to pay any outstanding amount.

Methods of Payment

Please ensure that you quote the correct name and application number on all tuition fee transactions. You must also read all University Financial Policies before you send any payment.

There are two ways you can pay tuition fees:

  • Pay online with a credit or debit card
  • Make a bank transfer directly to the University of Sunderland’s bank account
