What are NorthCLASS and NNECL?

Home / Help and advice / Support / Support for care experienced students / What are NorthCLASS and NNECL?

The University of Sunderland works with Higher Education providers, Local Authorities and charities across the country to raise the profile of care experienced young people and ensure we offer the best support possible. We are part of the Northern Care Leaver Activities and Student Support (NorthCLASS) which is a network of institutions across the north of England all working to support care experienced young people.

We are also members of the National Network for the Education of Care Leavers (NNECL) who promote opportunities to explore Higher Education, provide resources to support care experienced young people and work with organisations across the country to improve the support and guidance available. For more information about NNECL visit www.NNECL.org. In 2022, the University was awarded the NNECL Quality Mark and were ranked as exceptional - the highest possible rating - in all seven areas.
