Here at the University of Sunderland, we aim to make sure that anyone leaving care has the same full, immersive and enjoyable time studying at university as any other student.

We also understand that you may have different circumstances or concerns if you are leaving care. Here at the University of Sunderland we have a dedicated Looked After Young People and Care Leavers contact, Wendy Price, who provides support to any care experienced young person considering Higher Education. Wendy works with a small team who are here to help you throughout your journey from accommodation, finance and additional support you may be eligible for, as well as being a central point of contact for support throughout your studies. We are happy to accompany you to university events, open days, applicant days, interviews and graduation providing you with support wherever and whenever it’s needed.

You can contact Wendy and the We Care Team on 0191 515 2216 or by email

Over 97% of students who received support from the We Care Team* rated our support as good or very good.
