Where can I go if I need help or support?

Our ’Compass’ virtual Gateway app is your first port of call. It is packed with advice and you can ask a question or tell us about a problem. Compass tracks your enquiry and gives you real-time status updates while our Gateway team get an answer for you.

Our Student Gateway desks will also be open in September and our Student Gateway team will be there to help with any issues you have not been able to resolve via Compass. Clearly signposted social distancing measures will be in place at both Gateway desks. Because of reduced building capacity and socially-distanced queue management, staff may not be able to see you straight away.

We also have a number of other support services which you may need during your time here. Like your teaching and the library, most of these will be running in a hybrid way; online predominantly but with the full range of staff available to deal with whatever issue you want to raise. These services include Disability Support, Wellbeing, Student Financial Guidance, the Student Progression team and our careers service, Sunderland Futures.

We will discuss with you how you prefer to have your appointments: video call, phone call or email. We know that sometimes not everything can be done virtually. When we agree there is a need to meet in-person, perhaps for some disability assessments or wellbeing appointments, we will ensure that there is a safe and appropriate environment for you and us. Please expect to use hand sanitiser when you come in to see us.
