The Institute of Arts and Creative Industries

The Institute, based in the Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries, brings together two specific areas of research excellence: Media, Film and Cultural Studies and Arts and Design Practice.

The Institute will lead and grow cross-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary research, working with colleagues from across the University and externally.

Research leaders from this Institute have led initiatives such as:

  • Creative Fuse North East, a research project incorporating academics from the 5 regional universities, and involving researchers from across this Institute as well as from across other faculties. This project is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, European Regional Development Fund and Arts Council England.
  • Culture Map, a cross-faculty research initiative building on the work of the Cultural Spring programme, and the development of evaluative research supporting the Culture 2021 bid.
