The Centre for Research in Media and Cultural Studies (CRMCS) is a well-established research centre that was founded in 2000.
In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise and the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, over 60% of research was ranked world leading or internationally excellent. In the 2014 results 40% of research was also assessed as having world leading impact.

There are currently 4 professors and 1 reader (all full time) working within this area, as well as academics working across the School of Media and Communications. CRMCS has been supporting PhD bursaries to develop new research and enhance the research culture, and is a partner in the ESRC funded NINE (Northern Ireland/North East) Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTP).
