Centre for Legal Research within Sunderland Law School

The Centre for Legal Research within Sunderland Law School will promote academic debate, generate high quality and impactful research within the area of law as broadly conceived. The Centre will draw together the research and scholarly activity of the members of Sunderland Law School.  It will embrace a range of approaches to scholarship including socio-legal, pedagogical, critical, doctrinal and black letter. The research undertaken will feed directly into the law curriculum informing the work undertaken by students on all law programmes. The Centre will generate funding opportunities, expand the PGR student base and focus activity around submission to REF.

Areas of expertise include:

  • The Centre for Legal Research will promote the development of research on highly specialised areas of law. It has already established internationally recognised research in International Space Law
  • The Centre will also draw together research into Criminal Law and Law relating to Criminal Vetting, Sports Law and the law regulating the management of spectators at Football matches. Counter-Terrorism and Human Rights Law, Family Law, and Clinical Legal Education
