Leadership and Professional Practice
Research in the Leadership and Professional Practice Research Cluster focuses on the development of transformational leaders who can make a significant and enduring contribution to professional practice. Its work complements that of the Enterprise cluster in that it focuses on the professional development of enquiring, creative, and inspirational leaders who can facilitate successful innovation. The research themes are as follows:
Leadership, leader development and professional transformation
Leadership research focuses on the learning and development of leaders for the 21st-century focusing on a number of areas such as women in leadership, emerging leaders and place-based leadership.
The other strand of research focuses on work-based learning and developing professional practice and particularly the interface between higher education and the workplace. Research on professional practice includes work-based learning on corporate programmes, graduate employability and workforce development and developing professional practice in areas such as the use of storytelling in facilitating transformative learning and professional identity and how these can impact upon a manager’s development particularly where inter-professional working is involved.
