Projects and industry engagement

CERTE is involved in a number of research projects and industry engagements, aiming to generate impactful research on a theoretical level, as well as for the tourism, hospitality and events industry and wider society. The research centre's current projects and industry engagements are detailed below.



Project name: International Summit: Shifting gears in tourism and hospitality in a time of crisis

Year: 2021

Funder: Global Challenge Research Fund

Principal investigator: Nikolaos Pappas | The University of Sunderland

Description: This summit will take place in Sri Lanka and also online in July 2021.
The summit will bring together the international academic community from around the world with key the industry experts from Sri Lanka to look at the effect COVID has had on the Tourism industry in Sri Lanka and how the industry can look to recover and adapt in a time of crisis.

Project name: Validation and statistical analysis of user accessibility study for the Stadium of Light

Year: 2017

Funder: Stadium of Light

Principal investigatorDr Nicole Mitsche

Description: The research examined the validity and reliability of an accessibility survey for wheel chair users conducted by the Stadium of Light. It provided an in-depth statistical analysis of the date, concluding with recommendations for the Stadium of Light, Sunderland, UK.
