Programme 2: Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for England’s strategic plan for research was launched in November 2021. This sets out a ‘policy framework for developing and investing in research activity across the NHS in partnership with others, to create a research environment which empowers nurses to lead, participate in, and deliver research, where research is fully embedded in practice and professional decision-making for public benefit’ (Ruth May, Chief Nursing Office for England)

Our Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professional (NMAHP) strategic programme is aligned to the CNO research strategy, national and regional National Institute for Health (NIHR) NMAHP research agendas, with the common aim of increasing NMAHP research capacity and capability, empowering NMAHPS to become confident and independent research and knowledge exchange leaders.

The NMAHPs working across our School of Nursing and Health Sciences include nurses (adult, mental health, learning disability and children), midwives, occupational therapists, paramedics and physiotherapists.

The NMAHP programme supports the University of Sunderland Research Development Framework for staff wishing to engage in research and knowledge exchange activity.
