Get Into... series

Find out more about our on-campus Get Into... experience, designed to give sixth form and college pupils the opportunity to explore their subject area and university life at Sunderland.

We can offer our Get Into... sessions to pupils virtually or on campus here at the University; whatever suits your needs. Sessions come in a range of formats, such as classroom workshops, lecture style presentations, pre-recorded webcasts and online interactive modules that students can complete in their own time.

The sessions can include a range of topics, some of which are more appropriate to deliver at certain times in the academic year, so we can discuss your specific needs and what you'd like to achieve. Some of the things we can offer are: 

  • Hands-on subject tasters relating to a course or linked to what you are studying in your curriculum
  • Subject specific presentations about the courses available and career routes
  • Student life and budgeting sessions
  • Student finance talks
  • UCAS guides
  • Personal statements workshops
  • Study skills sessions
  • Campus tours
  • Interaction with our current students

Groups of students may be able to take part in more than one subject taster session, or simultaneous subject taster sessions can be organised for large groups interested in different areas.

We can offer workshops across a wide range of subjects including:

  • Arts and Creative Industries (including Performing Arts, Fine Art, Glass and Ceramics, Design, Fashion, Film and Media, English, Journalism): ‘Street-Style' clothing, Draw the box it came in, Bonkers Branding, Darkroom Magic, What kind of writer are you?, Investigative Journalism, Sketch. Sculpt. Socks., Creating an ensemble and more.

  • Biomedical Science (including Physiological Sciences): Candy Chromatography, Haematology, Infection Science, Aseptic Techniques and more.

  • Business, Law and Tourism (including Events Management): How to Manage Performance, Introduction to Business, Entrepreneurial Workshops, Future of HR, HR Case Studies and more.

  • Computing (including Web and Mobile Development, Computer Science, Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics, Game Development, Business Technology, Networks and Cybersecurity): Machine Vision, Mobile App Development, VR Experience, Bot or Not, Al Maze Solver, Hack the Web and more.

  • Education (including Primary Education, STEAM Education, Education Studies).

  • Engineering (including Manufacturing, Electronic and Electrical, Automotive, Mechanical): Robotics, Electronics, Automation, Trebuchet Challenge and more.

  • Nursing (including Adult, Children’s and Young People's, Mental Health, Learning Disability).

  • Pharmacy (including Pharmaceutical Science, Cosmetic Sciences).

  • Psychology (including Counselling).

  • Social Sciences (including Health and Social Care, Childhood Studies, Education Studies, Criminology, Professional Policing).

  • Sport and Exercise
