Our future journey
The new Strategic Plan 2016 – 2021 will ensure our higher education offer continues to be of the highest quality, relevant and innovative in its practice.
We will build on our latest Higher Education Review, conducted by the Quality Assurance Agency, which highlighted six areas of good practice and commended the University on its enhancement of student learning opportunities. Our new Strategic framework will further improve student learning opportunities.
We will articulate and meet institutional expectations in respect of good teaching, assessment and feedback and student support. We will take a holistic view of learning, learners, and the learner experience in programme design, delivery and oversight.
We will promote and celebrate a vibrant and inclusive learning and teaching culture and academic community, informed and enriched by research, pedagogic and professional practice. We will prioritise staff development and support within the teaching and learning plan.
We will enhance our robust monitoring and review procedures to ensure our programmes remain relevant and maintain the highest academic standards.
Our student experience will be such that it inspires our students to engage in their learning and help them co-create their learning journey.
We will enhance partnerships with our students to form a mutual commitment to a genuine process of continuous learning, dialogue and reflection to evolve and improve teaching and learning.
We will create a range of opportunities and structures designed to support student engagement, at the heart of which will be engagement with their programme of study. We will continue to work closely with, and be informed by, the University of Sunderland Students’ Union Executive.
We will ensure that our students’ journey will be personalised and supported from first contact to alumni. Over the next five years we aim to improve and enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the processes supporting the student journey. We will redesign student administration business processes, putting the student at the heart of solutions, uninhibited by existing structures, roles and activities.
