Sunderland Creatives: our Art and Design degree shows

Home / Student experience / Discover Sunderland / Arts and Creative Industries / Degree Shows

Each year, the University of Sunderland’s School of Art and Design holds degree shows for the graduating class. This is an opportunity for students to exhibit their work publicly, which for many is their first major public exhibition. The degree show is a culmination of the hard work and dedication our students put into the final year of their course, where they build their professional practice, skills and experience. It is also a celebration of their creativity and the beginning of their exciting new journey as creative professionals.

Upcoming degree shows

This Autumn our MA class of 2022 will be showcasing their work in our Priestman Building and National Glass Centre. Please see below for details, including which courses are showing, dates, times and locations. There is no need to book, all are welcome.

MA Glass and Ceramics and MA Visual Practice (Glass and Ceramics pathways)

Students graduating from MA Glass and Ceramics and MA Visual Practice (Glass and Ceramics routes) will be exhibiting in National Glass Centre from 24 September to 2 October (10am-5pm daily).

MA Fine Art and MA Visual Practice (Contemporary Fine Art pathway)

Our Fine Art and Contemporary Fine Art students will showcase their work in our Priestman Building, which is a five-minute walk from the city centre. These shows will be situated in our galleries and studio spaces across the building so there will be lots of great work to see. Their exhibition will be available to see from 24-30 September (10am-5pm Monday to Friday, 10am-3.30pm Saturday, closed Sunday 25).

During the Covid-19 pandemic, staff and students had to do things a little differently, as restrictions meant the degree shows couldn’t be held in person. Instead, the artwork was collated and presented in a different format: through the Sunderland Creatives website.

We will continue to use the site to present catalogues and examples of student work, alongside the live degree shows.
