Consider the organisms of the microbial world, particularly viruses, bacteria and fungi and how these impinge on human health and disease. Examine how microorganisms grow and adapt to their habitats, how they can cause disease and how the human body reacts to infections through immune responses. Explore how we develop and use antibiotics and how the body protects itself with intrinsic defenses and the production of antibodies. Learn essential skills in laboratory procedures and aseptic techniques so you can safely handle microorganisms.
