BA (Hons) Education Studies will give you a detailed understanding of the principles of education, and its systems and structures. You will critically explore all phases of education, from a range of historical, philosophical, sociological and psychological perspectives.
This course is a great option for anyone who is interested in working in the education sector but may be unsure which career route they would like to take. You will have the chance to discover your passion throughout the course and if you want to continue training and become a teacher when you graduate, you will be guaranteed an interview for a PGCE degree at the University of Sunderland.
This Education Studies course is taught via small group work, workshops, lectures, tutorials, computer-based learning, presentations and independent learning.
Your progress will be assessed with essays, reports, group work, seminar presentations and self-evaluation. Throughout the degree you'll have one-to-one support from academic staff.
There is also a part-time version of the course available, which is more suitable for applicants who already have the relevant qualifications and work experience.

Our typical offer is 112 UCAS Tariff points, from a combination of acceptable Level 3 qualifications which may include: A Levels, T Levels, BTEC Diplomas/Extended Diplomas, Scottish and Irish Highers, Access to HE Diplomas, or the International Baccalaureate. We do not accept General Studies.

You must also have GCSE grade C or above in mathematics and English language, or equivalent qualifications. If you've studied for a GCSE which has a numerical grade, you'll need to achieve a grade 4 or above.

If you don’t have the necessary academic qualifications, but you have relevant work experience or qualifications, you may still be eligible.

This course is subject to revalidation to meet the requirements for Initial Teacher Training from 2024.

Part-time fees are £6,935 per 120 credits. Part-time study isn't available to international students who require a student visa to study in the UK.
