Visa Preparation Support Questionnaire

A Visa Preparation Support (VPS) Questionnaire is an opportunity for you to demonstrate the research that you have carried out into the University of Sunderland.

The University will only issue a CAS if a subsequent visa application is likely to be successful. Therefore, as part of your application, you need to demonstrate a commitment to study. This is because the Home Office may ask you to attend an interview and ask you about your study plans, research you have undertaken and what you intend to do after your studies. Following this interview session, the Home Office will decide to either approve or refuse your student visa application.

Based on your responses within the questionnaire, the University will let you know if we can progress you to the next stage in the CAS process. If your responses are not sufficiently detailed or indeed you tell us about something that the Home Office will consider a risk, then the University will reject your application on the basis that the visa refusal risk is too high. This decision will stand for one full academic year.

Your agent can provide you with advice and guidance but is not allowed to complete this questionnaire on your behalf.

Once you have completed your questionnaire, you must return it to the Immigration Compliance Team who will then review your responses. We will then inform you of the outcome of this and what happens next via email.

Frequently asked questions

How long will it take for my questionnaire to be reviewed?

The Immigration Compliance team will get back to you as soon as possible but no later than within 5 working days of your questionnaire being submitted.

What are the possible outcomes?

You will either be notified that the University will be able to progress you through this part of the process or you will be advised that the University cannot progress your application further.  We will provide detailed reasons why.

Can I submit a second questionnaire?

No, demand for places this year is extremely high and the University only has a set amount of CAS to allocate. The University teams does not have the capacity to review more than one questionnaire for each prospective student. We issue you clear instructions to complete the questionnaire and take time to answer each of the questions.  The same opportunity is given to every applicant

What if I do not agree with the decision?

You can provide reasons why you do not agree with the decision, and it will be reviewed again about another member of the Immigration Compliance team. We will notify you of the outcome of the review. The outcome of the review is final.
