Modules:
Module 1
- Practice Development in Wound Care Assessment and Treatment (30 credits)
Consider the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of wounds such as skin tears, surgical wounds and pressure ulcers. Focus on the wound healing process and explore factors that can delay healing. Explore current theory and practice relevant to assessment, diagnosis and treatment of wounds within the context of nursing and collaborative multidisciplinary team working. Review clinical pathways, guidance and local policy in relation to contemporary practice.
Module 2
- Practice Development in the On-going Assessment and Management of Chronic Wounds (30 credits)
Explore the relationship between chronic wounds and an individual’s physical and mental health. Consider the assessment and management of chronic wounds with specific focus on pressure ulcers, leg ulcers and lymphodema. Learn skills including appropriate assessment using the ankle-brachial pressure index (ABPI), and compression bandaging techniques. Critically explore behavioural and health change models within the context of contemporary practice, in relation to health promotion and self-management. Evaluate multi-disciplinary team working in terms of care delivery and patient outcomes. Plan for future continued professional development.
