Overview

This short course provides insight into definitions of leadership, qualities of effective leaders, and styles of leadership.

Reflect on your challenging work environment and your role as a leader. Explore your strengths and preferred ways of working, consider how you see yourself and how others see you, and consider what makes you an effective leader. Develop confidence and effectiveness in your work processes.

Course structure

This three-day short course will take place on campus at the University of Sunderland.

Topics covered include:

Personal and professional qualities, with a strength’s focus
Leading self and others, formal/informal leadership
Self-identity, social identity, behaviour and impact
Personality profiling, emotional intelligence and personal values
Communication/influence

There is no formal academic assessment of the course, although participants will be invited to produce a reflection on the experience, providing evidence of the impact of the course, with a consideration of how this might inform future development.

At our City Campus, the University’s facilities for dance and performing arts include:
- A main studio with a state-of-the-art lighting rig, a cyclorama for digital work and portable seating for small public performances
- A second dance studio
- Rehearsal space
- Two dressing rooms
- Cameras and edit suite
We’ve got a large collection of books, e-books and audio-visual materials related to dance, with many more titles available through the inter-library loan service. We also subscribe to a comprehensive range of journals so that you can access the most up-to-date research and information.

During your time as a student, you can take advantage of opportunities to participate in University-based dance and drama societies as well as the choir and musical theatre performance projects.
City Campus
We’ve got thousands of relevant books and e-books, with many more titles available through the inter-library loan service. We also subscribe to a comprehensive range of print and electronic journals so you can access the most reliable and up-to- date academic and industry articles. There are nearly 9,000 journal titles, mostly in electronic format.
Library Services - general
The St Peter’s Library contains over 31,000 books related to business, economics, management, human resources, marketing, strategy and tourism, with many more titles available through the inter-library loan service. We also subscribe to a comprehensive range of print and electronic journals so you can access the most reliable and up-to-date academic and industry articles.
