Case Study

Cristian Virciu

Positive student satisfaction reviews were just one of the reasons Cristian Virciu was attracted to the University of Sunderland. Having now graduated from his BSc (Hons) Computing course and enjoying employment as a UI designer at Nehemiah Security, he also reflects positively on his time here at Sunderland.

What attracted me the most to the University of Sunderland were the high student satisfaction reviews and the facilities the University has to offer. I have always wanted to go to university and pursue my passion for web and UX design, and the University of Sunderland provided everything I needed to kickstart my career in this field.

What I liked most about my course was the fact that every project I worked on prepared me for what was to come after graduation. All the projects were tailored in such way that I got a feel of what it's like to work in a real-life situation and not purely for educational purposes. Also, the fact that the course was focused on the practical side of things helped me a lot to assimilate all the information.

Right after graduation, I decided to move back to my hometown, Cluj Napoca in Romania. I took a short break and then I started working as a Junior Web Designer at Regal Beloit Corp, where I worked for a little over a year. Since January 2018, I am working as a UI designer at Nehemiah Security, which I thoroughly enjoy. When it comes to future plans, let's just say I'm striving for the best every day and I'm trying to learn as much as possible. I'm also planning on getting into a research programme focused on UX in the near future.

I would definitely recommend the University of Sunderland to other students. It was one of the best experiences of my life, so I guess recommendations come naturally. Sign up for societies and clubs, get to know students from other courses and get yourself involved in as much as possible. Make this the best time of your life. It's worth it!

During my time at the University of Sunderland, I was part of the Mentorship Scheme and that helped me tremendously. I would recommend that to current and future students as well.

I know this might sound cliché, but my experience at the University of Sunderland was truly life-changing."
